Batteries are technologies that contain all the advantages such as high specific energy density, no memory effect, low self-discharge rate and long cycle life. A typical battery cell, consisting of cathode, anode, and electrolyte, provides electrical energy by an electrochemical reaction. During discharge, ions in motion are released from the anode, move through the electrolyte and pass to the cathode, and battery systems work on this principle. During charging, charged ions collect in the anode after oxidation reactions occurring at the cathode.
Lead-acid batteries, Li-ion batteries, zinc-hybrid batteries, sodium-sulfur batteries and redox fluid batteries are known as different types of batteries among electrochemical energy storage systems. Within the scope of battery technologies, symmetric-asymmetric, flexible-inflexible high-performance batteries can be developed for the storage of electrical energy.
